I woke up this morning to a video message from my hubby and Evan, a recording from Anna in Spanish (what was she thinking?? Lol), and of course, my daddy wishing me a Happy Birthday. It was so precious! It was so sweet of them to make my day start out so special. (To all my friends and family who have texted and/or sent messages thru GroupMe or FB -Thank you too!!)
After a hearty breakfast here at the hotel, we left for our school in Pavas.
Today was less social, more work. My team switched places with the other team - they went to the classrooms to do crafts and we went to sand and paint.
First up - Sanding. It wasn't hard, but the dust in the eyes and mouth was yuk. I wore my sun glasses and a dust mask. Most of the kids weren't working above their heads (left for us adults), so they didn’t need the eye protection as much.
Then the fun started. PAINTING!! I love painting. I don’t like doing at home because I hate cleaning up the mess I make...but I really find it fun and somewhat therapeutic. It always just changes the perspective of a room when there is a fresh coat of paint there.
BUT - there are fewer pictures today because once my hands got into paint, I didn’t want to risk dropping my phone in a bucket of it! (Note: I had paint in my hair, and all over my clothes when I was done if that gives you any idea of how things played out! HAHAHA!)
Brady and I did work together on a a section. It is so satisfying to complete something with your child like that. I really loved chatting with him while working. No phone service, so no competition with that either!!! I will take a picture of that section tomorrow. We were still cleaning up and I just never made it back over to take one before we left.
All in all, a great day. Tomorrow we will be back in the classroom.
Also, we had a guy on our team end up in the hospital and had to have emergency surgery late last night. He is doing much better, but please lift him up in your prayers. I know it has to be scary to have that happen in the US - much less a foreign country where you can’t even speak the native language!! His name is Joel. Thanks!!
Oh - and - just so ya know - I managed to keep all my emotions under control today. 😜
Eyes Importante is the theme for the summer with this school. It means “You are Important” because we want these kids to know that they matter to God and they matter to us.
Until Tomorrow...
In Love -
Trisha
